Week TWO is finished and we are rolling! This week has been focused on really solidifying routine and getting students started on classroom tasks and grade level skills. Please take some time to read through the following sections for both the 6th grade students and the 7/8th grade students. There is also information regarding the 7th grade trip to the creation museum near the end of this post. Thank you and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

7th Grade Weekend Homework

6th Grade

This week the 6th grade students finished up their basic tutorial of the online world. Some skills that we covered were:

  • Logging into Google
  • Using Google Drive (Online Cloud Storage)
  • Creating Online Documents
  • Organizing Online Files
  • Sending Email
  • Using Google Classroom

Once we finished our online tutorials we started looking at what it really means to engage in science and think like a scientist. Next week we will expand upon this idea a little bit and then wrap up our introductory unit. You can expect our first test to appear within the next two weeks. While there is NO HW for the weekend please have your student show you what they have been doing online!

7th/8th Grade

7th and 8th grade are off to a great start! We are well underway through our introductory unit. We have been taking an in depth look at how to think like a scientist and we took some time today to look at just how an experiment should be planned out. I have posted the presentation we are working through on Google Classroom. I also have posted an assignment that is Due Sunday night. While the assignment shouldn’t take the students a long time, it will take some time and they will need access to a device and the internet to complete it. Below you will also find the diagram that I went through in class.  It has been coined the “Science Minded Method.” Students will need to know this diagram for their first test which will be late next week.

  • Get to Creation Museum by 1:30 PM
  • Spend 3-4 hours going through the museum and Gardens/Scavenger Hunt
  • Break for Devotions, Packed Dinner at Museum, and Group Time
  • Start Live Nativity at 5:30 (museum exhibits closes at 6 pm)
  • Leave between 6:30 and 7:30 PM
  • Arrive back at the GETZ RD campus between 10:30 and 11 PM

If you haven’t looked at the previous email that was sent out there was a meal order form and information regarding cost. Everyone that goes on the trip pays $47 (including chaperones). If you are interested in chaperoning please take a minute to fill out this form!
